Hazelaid Amber Necklaces Really Do Work. (Review and Giveaway)

I think teething has a bit of a bad rep. I think sometimes it’s a catchall phrase for anything that we, as parents, can’t make sense of otherwise.

“Oh, your baby’s been waking nine times a night? Must be teething.”

“Oh, your baby’s got a rash on his butt? Must be teething.”

“Oh, your baby cried throughout Judy’s 80th birthday party?” Must be teething.”

Yeah.

Teething gets blamed for a lot, and often, wrongfully. So, when I became a mom, I never labeled any of Nya’s crying, sleepless nights, or irritability as “teething.” Ever. Instead, I just blamed other things—the weather, a new solid, illness, colic, growth supports, politics, the plague—anything.

Now as a second time mom, and with a different baby, however, I’ve changed. Now, I have less of a rigid understanding of teething and am not as reluctant to say, “she’s teething.” So, when she began drooling excessively, gnawing on everything in sight, and started waking up more at night, I gave her “changes” a name, “teething.”

After naming her symptoms, I began looking for some help with those symptoms. I had heard about teething necklaces, so I thought, why not? I went with a company I knew and trusted called Hazelaid.

Who is Hazelaid?

Hazelaid makes a hundreds of natural products, from soaps to ointments. They’re most known for their homeopathic jewelry, specifically their Baltic Amber and Hazelwood, and Hazelwood-Amber combo necklaces. The Baltic Amber necklaces can help with a number of conditions including, inflammation, and pain. While the Hazelwood necklaces can help with, among other things, eczema, nausea, acne, indigestion problems, migraines, and arthritis. (The combo necklaces help with a combination of these issues.)

For Annah’s teething, I selected a child-sized, Super Butter necklace.

It features the cloudier beads, which according to Hazelaid, produce a stronger effect.

Since the Baltic Amber necklaces work by absorption into the skin and subsequent release of some oils (these oils contain succinic acid) into the bloodstream, Annah wears her necklace throughout much of the day and at night. (We ONLY remove it when she takes a bath since unlike the Hazelwood necklaces, the Baltic Amber necklaces do not need to come into contact with water.)

What I Like About Our Hazelaid Necklace

  • It’s well crafted. The necklaces feature double knots between each bead and a plastic clasp at the back. Annah’s necklace is 11” which is recommended for most babies and toddlers. (It’s short enough to prevent a choking hazard, strong enough to prevent accidental tugs.)
  • It’s affordable. The child-sized Baltic Amber necklaces are about $20. The same is true for the Hazelwood child-sized necklaces. The adult necklaces range from $20 – $26 dollars.
  • It’s long lasting. If properly cared for, our necklace should last forever.
  • It works. Need I say more?

Annah has been wearing her necklace for a little over a month now and has been a teething angel ever since. She’s been sleeping through the night and never crying and… Ha. Just kidding.

I can’t say that amber teething necklaces has worked a miracle. But I know that her necklace is working– that it’s helped us tremendously. She is no longer drooling. She is gnawing less on random things around the house. And her sleep has gradually improved. (She went from waking up 5 times a night to 2 times a night almost two weeks ago) KNOCK  VERY  HARD  ON   WOOD.

Oh, and though Nya has all of her baby teeth, she enjoys wearing her necklace, too, because it makes her feel like a “princess.” (Her words, not mine) lol. (She also has a Super Butter.)

So, I’ve had a positive experience.  I had such a good experience that I wanted to share this review and company with you. Would you like to try a Baltic Amber or Hazelwood necklace by Hazelaid?

My son wears one as well…just have to remember to take it off him when he goes for his baby visits to his ped. Last time she tore a strip off me bc he was wearing a necklace which is “unsafe”!

Jessica May 31, 2012 at 3:04 pm

I have heard that about some teething necklaces. The Hazelaid necklaces, however, have some safety mechanisms in place that make them very safe for small children. The clasps will open when a certain amount of force is applied. Also, each amber bead is double knotted onto the string. This means that if the necklace were to break, all the beads wouldn’t come loose. Lastly, the beads of the amber necklaces are non-toxic, if a child happened to eat a bead. Hazelaid also sells bracelets so even with all these precautions, if parents don’t feel comfortable with necklaces, that’s another great option. I hope this helps!

I would love to try the Baltic Amber necklace in Soft Butter or Caramel for my little guy. He’ll be 4 months in a week and the drooling and chewing has started in full force.
