My four year old saw a commercial for “Take Me To Your Mother” a month back on Nick Jr. and exclaimed, “Mommy! Look, mommy! There’s a show for you! You can watch it when we go to sleep!”
I laughed, mostly at the idea of my toddler assuming that a) I have night life after her bedtime that is only made interesting by television programs and b) that I would really be one of “types” to be drawn to some shows featuring “moms” and marketed to moms just because I am a mom.
So I said I would check it out. But I didn’t until last night. When left with only Top Chef on Bravo, I did some channel surfing and stumbled upon the show “Take Me To Your Mother,” starring Andrea Rosen.
And I….loved it. Really.
I assumed that my after-hours television watching psyche would reject any forms of entertainment marketed towards my day job of motherhood. I assumed I couldn’t laugh at “mom” humor about, well, my life.
But, apparently not.
I enjoyed the show and seeing women that have children being able to laugh and do funny things because I like to think that I am one of those kinds of women, or the kind who is funny beyond my Barney impersonations and very dramatic readings of “The Cat and The Hat” for my children.
Will I be hooked and tune into Nickelodeon instead of my beloved trashy reality TV, um, I’m not sure, but maybe.
Have you watched any of Nickelodeon’s Nickmom programming? If so, what shows are you watching?
